Even though, there are around 20 species of armadillos that are found across the globe, the nine-banded armadillo is commonly seen in the United States. They can dig big burrows, that can be around 80 inches in depth. If made underneath a house, such burrows may cause cracks in the walls, and damage the foundation itself. The ‘mighty’ armadillo has become somewhat of a mascot for the Lone Star State, especially in Austin and the surrounding cities. Affection for this armored-platted critter has transcended into the form of bumper stickers, T-shirts, jewelry, studded animals, and beyond.

If you are in the Southwest, it is probably not an armadillo (I've never seen one in any residential area). Here in Arizona, we have a lot of ground squirrels, they dig holes all over our yards. Cheap and effective remedy is to place pieces of bubble gum down their holes - it is sweet, they eat it and cannot digest it, so it kills them.   I know this post is a little old, but I was just recently searching for how to get rid of armadillos myself and have done a little research. There's a few methods I've seen, outside of using a gun or picking the dang things up One is the chemical-based spray I found on .

Shelby Hearon was born Janu in Kentucky. After earning a BA in from the University of Texas at Austin, she settled down to marriage and family. She began her first novel Armadillo in the Grass in and after many stops and rewrites, submitted it to Knopf in   I walked out last night to let the pup go potty and there was an armadillo. Well I yelled at it and not only scared it away but scared poor Bella also. She really didn't want to go down in the yard to potty after that. Anyway, when I went out this morning the yard is a mess.
